My name is Althea Dorsey Gray, I am the Founder/President of Dorsey ~ Gray Literacy Foundation Inc. I am an entrepreneur, enthusiastic professional, responsible person, with proven leadership abilities in working as a team, handling multiple tasks, great adaptability to any venture’s environment. My alternate goals are to open Thief stores throughout the states to help transit juveniles back into the work force; at the same time, train them with proper knowledge, skills and the ability to start life afresh. Proceeds from the organization would go towards scholarships for the less fortunate youth. My goals with Dorsey ~ Gray Literacy Foundation are to provide scholarships to qualified students wanting to pursue higher education but need financial assistant. I am a mother of four. I put my life on the shelf for a moment to raise them to the best of my knowledge; Most of them earning full scholarships to Universities of their choice. Then, at age 50 after going through many Literacy challenges in my own life, I proudly walked across the stage, third top of my class, with my elder daughter to receive my degree in Criminal Justice in June 2007; Determination and a desire for continuous personal growth. However, I was one of those who were caught up in the recession and has been and presently seeking employment. With that, I use proceeds from my book sells to provide the funding for scholarships for student competing the Dorsey ~ Gray essay contest. It has been a struggle but I trust God to make it happen. My passion is ‘if I can help somebody along their way, I know my living will not be in vain;’ an example giving back to society. During any down time, (few and far in between), I volunteer my services to day-care center, reading/story time.
